My Background
I am originally from MN, but have been in AZ for most of my life. My professional background is in Information Technology. When I retired, a handful of artists in my neighborhood inspired me to take a metal arts class. I have a love for rusty objects and had been collecting them for several years, thinking that one day I'd do something them. This is that day! I love the color and texture of rusty metal parts and when I transform found objects into yard art, I feel like I've given them a new life - a life where they can be appreciated and loved once again.
My Medium
I use found metal objects, along with some new metal to make my art. I find interesting small metal items on the street when I’m riding my bike - and more than once, I’ve gone back with my vehicle to pick up something larger. I’ve retrieved some really good larger objects out of dumpsters and alleys. People find out I make things out of rusty metal, and give me metal things they find when they finally try to clean up their garage or shed. I have a neighbor who loves to go to yard sales, and he picks up metal for me some times. I also buy materials at thrift shops, and my favorite junk store on Indian School Road. I use a MIG welder to assemble the parts to make comical metal men and women, insects, cats, dogs, fish, birds and whatever my imagination comes up with.
